Today’s feature is with the Lovely Ladies Who Trim, a group of professional trimmers servicing cannabis growers the southeast Michigan region. I first discovered them on Instagram and knew I had to hear more about this awesome, hard-working group of women. I hope you enjoy!
How did you first get involved in the cannabis industry?
We moved to Michigan from Miami in February specifically for the cannabis industry. The Florida laws aren’t as established yet and we felt Michigan was an affordable, rising state to start. Brittany’s grandfather passed a few years ago from cancer which we both feel cannabis could have helped significantly, if only it wasn’t frowned upon. After doing extensive research into the medical benefits and financial opportunities, getting involved was no longer a question.
How many ladies are currently behind the Lovely Ladies Who Trim?
The Lovely Ladies Who Trim is owned and operated by 2 Lovely Ladies, Brittany and Lynn. Lovely Ladies Who Trim currently employs 22 Lovely Ladies and growing. We are currently located within 3 regions which include Genesee County, Detroit Metro Area, and Ann Arbor Metro Area.
Do you sell products and services besides trimming? Do you plan on it in the future?
At the moment no, but we are excited for a few future endeavors in process licensing. With processing, we can explore all of the possibilities that CBD can bring to the health and medical community.
What does a typical workday look like for you?
A typical day for us starts at 8:45 AM where we meet our team at a central location and carpool to the client. We do this to remain discreet and consolidate the vehicles. We start work at 9:30 AM sharp and go to work until 8:30 PM unless we finish early.
How do you anticipate recreational legalization in Michigan, assuming residents vote in favor of it this November, will affect your business?
We anticipate it bringing plenty of business our way. We feel Michigan is ready for the leap and we are confident that it will pass. Legalizing recreational cannabis gives everyone access and the ability to grow. With cannabis, growth comes the trimming process and that’s where The Lovely Ladies Who Trim dominate.
Have you had any negative experiences with sexism or other types of discrimination in the industry?
Honestly, our clients are great! Most are referrals. Initially, they’re a bit cautious until they meet us and see we’re just two chill Lovely Ladies Who Trim, with a fierce trim team. As a part of the process, my partner and I meet with each client prior to working the job. We present a checklist of what’s needed from them that day, review the workload, and set the proper expectations. On a side note, we have had inquiries about trimming naked which we obviously never entertain.
What do you think is the biggest misunderstanding about the cannabis industry and what you do?
We think the biggest misconception is its classification as a Schedule 1 drug. Giving cannabis the impression of being a dangerous and addictive drug, when in fact it’s not. There are countless health and environmental benefits that come with cannabis and we are only scratching the surface of what we know it can do.
The biggest misconception in what WE do is that we’re dancers in a drug house lol. But we’re just a couple of normal girls in sweats and t-shirts, listening to music, talking about pretty much everything in life and trimming away for 11 hours. Most of the girls are already acquainted since a lot are referrals and if they don’t know each other, after 11 hours people get close pretty quick. We really do have a blast! It’s truly a family environment.
Are you open with your friends and family about working in cannabis, or do you avoid discussing it with most people?
Absolutely we keep open communication with our families and friends so they have a clear understanding of what we’re doing. Plus we are all medically licensed. Honesty is the best policy.
What advice would you give other women thinking about working in cannabis or getting involved in trimming?
We would definitely encourage them, cannabis is a thriving business and sure to take off. Ladies need to stick together. It is a male-dominated industry and women are always underpaid. Our goal is to always take good care of our team.
Do you smoke weed? What’s your favorite way to consume?
We both do actually, we enjoy smoking, eating edibles, and we recently have been into dabbing a bit, lol. Lynn uses Rick Simpson Oil, a concentrated CBD oil for joint pain that’s been extremely helpful.
